Nova Scotia Province

Maritimes Provinses
Nova Scotia is one of Canada's three maritime provinces, and one of the four provinces that form Atlantic Canada. Its provincial capital is Halifax.   As of 2016, the population was 923,598. Nova Scotia is Canada's second-most-densely populated province, after Prince Edward Island, with 17.4 inhabitants per square km. Nova Scotia is one of ten provinces and three territories in Canada and is situated on the southeast coast of Canada. It is also one of the warmest province in Canada.

Nova Scotia Schools

  • Nova Scotia has more than 450 public schools for children. The public system offers primary to Grade 12. There are also private schools in the province. Public education is administered by seven regional school boards, responsible primarily for English instruction and French immersion, and also province-wide by the Conseil Scolaire Acadien Provincial, which administers French instruction to students for whom the primary language is French.
  • High school students looking for more of a challenge in the classroom are able to enroll in the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma Program in some of our high schools and private schools. Universally recognized, the IB program is an advanced liberal arts diploma meant for high-achieving students in grades 11 and 12. Pre-IB courses will also be offered in Grade 10.
  • Academic Placement (AP) courses follow guidelines developed and published by the College Board. AP provides students with the opportunity to take one or more university-level courses while in high school. Each course covers the breadth of information, skills and assignments found in the corresponding university course.
  • AP is accepted by more than 3600 universities and colleges worldwide for credit, advanced placement or both on the basis of successful AP exam grades. All schools in Nova Scotia follow the curriculum set by the provincial government. In Nova Scotia schools have different grade levels and schools vary in size. Some schools have fewer than 300 students and others may have more than 1,000. All schools in Nova Scotia are welcoming and international students can easily make friends. Schools in Nova Scotia offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities and they vary depending on the school, season and student arrival times. These activities usually take place after class and are a good way to meet friends. Students who are involved are happier in school, learn more English, and are more successful academically. Activities schools offer include music, sports, arts, and clubs.
